Bin Wraps

Description

The District of Tofino supports an artful public realm through creative place- making. The aim of their community art projects program is to create artwork that is accessible to the public, through the engagement and participation of community members in defining and shaping their environment.

One of these ongoing community projects involves bin wrappers that showcase local artists. You can learn more about Deanna Lankin’s Waves IV bin wrapper, located at the Live to Surf plaza, by listening to the artist during the MUP Art Walk.

Deanna’s work was inspired by the waves on nearby Chesterman Beach and was part of a series in a two-year exploration of the waves expressing her feelings about the ocean.

As Lankin points out, these bear-proof bins also encourage respect and protection for local wildlife.
