Tofino Float‘em Garden
Each piece has such an interesting story behind it. Where did it come from? Who’s touched this object? What was it used for? It underlines the connectivity of the ocean.— Pete Clarkson
The Tofino Float'em Garden is an outdoor public art installation comprised of 11 individual artworks made entirely from marine debris. The installation pays tribute to the coastal folk art tradition of creating yard art from beachcombed flotsam while highlighting the debris crisis in the ocean.
Self-taught artist Pete Clarkson is your personal guide to each individual artwork from the totem float’ems to Little Bear, from the Frog formerly known as Prince to Life Boy, and Sea to Tree.
Pete Clarkson discusses the discovery that started his inventive repurposing of marine debris back when he was a newly arrived park ranger for the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
Just down Main Street, you can view more of Pete Clarkson’s art with The Shoreburden (2013) at Tofino Sea Kayaking.
