Kinetic Sculptures

To continue this walk head towards the Pointe Building.

Lyman Whitaker’s fascination with the wind has been ever-evolving over his past thirty years of exploration in the medium he invented — kinetic wind sculptures.

Over 30 pieces of the artist’s works are spread throughout the property of the Wickaninnish Inn. (Please see the detailed map to help you explore the sculptures as you wander).

Located here on Chesterman Beach on the Pacific Ocean, the wind ranges from a gentle summer breeze to gale-force in winter, constantly changing the cadence of movement. Though in this collection his sculptures are set amidst lush rainforest, Lyman is often inspired by natural growth in the desert climate where he lives in Utah, next to USA’s Zion National Park.

Lyman Whitaker, who has been a practicing sculptor for half a century, shares the craft behind the magic of his unique wind-animated creations.
